Brandon Sheppard finishes second in Knoxville Nationals preliminary
Brandon Sheppard invaded the Hawkeye State on Thursday to compete in the 20th annual Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville (IA) Raceway aboard the Longhorn Factory Team / Sheppard Riggs Racing No. B5 Late Model.
With 40 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entries on the grounds for a pair of preliminary nights on Thursday and Friday, Sheppard got off to a slow start on Thursday before rebounding with a strong run on Friday. Following a second-place heat finish, Brandon advanced through the field seven spots in the 25-lap preliminary to finish second. He joined race-winner Bobby Pierce and Max Blair on the podium.
Locked into the seventh-starting position for Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Knoxville Nationals finale, Sheppard steered to a ninth-place finish in the rain-delayed 75-lapper.
