Brandon Overton Tops DIRTcar Nationals Preliminary at Volusia Speedway Park
$5,000 Victory Marks First Win With Riggs Motorsports
EVANS, Ga. (2/17/25) – Brandon Overton made his first trip to Victory Lane with the Riggs Motorsports Longhorn Factory Team team this past week with a $5,000 triumph in the third round of the 54th annual Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar National at Volusia Speedway Park.
Overton, who joined forces with Riggs Motorsports at the end of the 2024 campaign, outran his little brother Cody in Wednesday’s 20-lap preliminary feature aboard the NAPA Auto Parts / Coltman Farms Racing No. 76 Longhorn Chassis Late Model.
"I looked up and I seen (No. 2 on the scoreboard). I said, 'Damn, if he passes me, I'll never hear the end of it,' " Brandon Overton said of his brother Cody. "I felt like I went too hard early, honestly, probably hurt our tire a little bit. I was having a hard time staying in the bottom of (turns) one and two, but just glad to finally get one."
Overton and the Riggs Motorsports team invaded Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) this past week as Monday’s event marked the beginning of six straight nights of racing for the 54th annual DIRTcar Nationals.
With a pair of $7,000-to-win preliminary features slated for Monday and Tuesday, Overton improved upon his sixth-place finish on Monday by securing a fifth-place result in Tuesday’s race.
On Wednesday with the 61-car field split into three groups, Brandon set the fastest lap in his group before going on to dominate his preliminary feature, leading from start to finish. He fended off a late charge from his younger brother, Cody, to capture his first win of the season and the $5,000 paycheck.
Overton struggled to maintain Wednesday’s pace in Thursday’s and Friday’s World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series events, but he ultimately ended the DIRTcar Nationals on a positive note.
Racing into Saturday’s finale with a runner-up finish in his heat race, Brandon climbed four spots in the 50-lap affair to register a fourth-place finish. He chased Jonathan Davenport, Drake Troutman, and Nick Hoffman to the checkers with Devin Moran finishing fifth.

Overton and the Riggs Motorsports team are tentatively scheduled to return to action in mid-March for the Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway. The World of Outlaws Late Model Series doubleheader kicks off on Friday with a $12,000-to-win preliminary feature, followed by Saturday night’s main event offering a $15,000 top prize.
