Heartbreak in Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway
Brandon Overton joined a 38-car World of Outlaws Late Model Series field on Saturday at Smoky Mountain Speedway for the finale of a Tennessee doubleheader.
The Georgia native showed front-running speed early, posting the second-fastest lap in his 19-car qualifying group before driving to a heat race victory. Starting third in the Tennessee Tipoff A-Main, Overton worked his way to the lead on lap 38 and appeared poised to secure his first World of Outlaws triumph since 2023.
However, with the win in sight, hard contact with a slowing competitor with just two laps remaining brought his charge to an abrupt end, denying Overton a potential $20,000 payday.
