Brandon Overton Bags $10,053 Spring Nationals Victory at EAMS
Talladega Short Track’s Bama Bash Up Next
EVANS, Ga. (03/31/25) – Brandon Overton’s decision to make the four-hour journey to East Alabama Motor Speedway on Saturday proved to be a wise one, as the newly minted father claimed a $10,053 Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals victory aboard his NAPA Auto Parts / Coltman Farms Racing No. 76 Longhorn Chassis Late Model.
Overton’s bid for his second win of the season took a dramatic turn earlier in the weekend, as a late-race restart in Friday’s Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series event at Whynot Motorsports Park saw him drop from the lead in the final five laps.
“(Tyler Erb) is my buddy. I wasn’t gonna run into him and he wasn’t gonna run into me, but I guarantee he wasn’t gonna give me much room out there,” Overton said. “Hard racing, hell of a racetrack … we had the wrong tire on so I knew when we got to riding there and I said ‘damn I better hurry up and get the lead.’ Actually I think Tyler had the right tire on, it’s kinda crazy we’re all from down here and he’s from wherever, Texas and he puts the right tire on, so hats off to him.”
With the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series off til late April, Overton unloaded the Riggs Motorsports Longhorn Factory Team No. 76 Late Model at Whynot Motorsports Park (Meridian, Miss.) for the two-day House of Hook Showdown.
The rain-shortened doubleheader at Whynot Motorsports Park attracted a strong field of 45 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series (HTFSDS) entries on Friday, with Overton securing a spot in the $8,000-to-win opener with a flag-to-flag victory in his heat race. After charging to the lead on lap 25 and pacing the field for the next 10 laps, the Evan, Georgia native found himself on the wrong end of a late-race caution on lap 35. In the final five laps, Overton dropped from the front to finish seventh.
Heading to East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Ala.) on Saturday after wet weather washed out the HTFSDS finale in Mississippi, Brandon timed in third-fastest in his group before picking up a heat race win. Positioned on the second row for the main event, Overton soared ahead of Tyler Erb on lap 12 and led the remainder of the 40-lapper to claim the $10,053 payday and his second win of the season.
He finished 2.299 seconds ahead of Erb with his brother Cody rounding out the podium.
